10 Sales & Marketing Lessons We Learned in 2020

2020 was a year of many lessons. Here are 10 sales and marketing tips based on what we learned during this challenging year.
10. You Can Turn Customer Objections into Reasons to Say Yes
Opening a customer’s closed mind is possible as long as you’re still having the conversation. We heard a lot of the same objections from customers this year and figured out strong responses to each one.
9. Solving Problems Is More Impactful Than Sheer Persistence
Prioritizing conversations over canned pitches, finding the right problems to solve, and understanding the prospect’s industry will help you provide a more consultative selling experience. (And don’t be afraid to walk away.)
8. Video Meetings Can Still Feel Face to Face
When meeting face to face isn’t possible, there are ways to make video meetings even smoother than meeting in-person.
7. If You Want to Sell More, You Need to Show More
If you have dynamic conversations that cover more ground, you’ll be able to cross-sell and up-sell naturally.
6. Some Sales Tools Are Smarter Than Others
A smart sales tool requires four things: easy operation, adaptability, opportunities for growth, and investment enhancement.
5. Content Should Be Easy to Find (If You Want Sales Reps to Use It)
Sales reps don’t go rogue because they want to annoy marketers. They go rogue because they can’t find the content they need. If you make the right content easy to find, they’ll use it.
4. Sales & Marketing Conflict Is Fixable
Conflict between sales and marketing is one of the most costly expenses, but it’s easy to fix by creating a strong feedback loop, ensuring your brand is consistent–and giving marketing more credit.
3. The Right Tech Helps Sync Sales & Marketing
CRM, marketing automation, and sales enablement software provide a perfect trifecta that will create a cohesive sales and marketing relationship and keep your teams aligned on your goals.
2. Confidence Is Everything
Building a confident sales team is all about increasing knowledge and feeling prepared for any situation.
1. All Sales Are Person-to-Person
Your customers are people first. Showing empathy, especially during challenging times, goes a long way. Focus on your relationships and building trust.
